Therapeutic uses

  • Sweet fruit (swadu) is beneficial in burning sensations (daha), excessive thirst (trishna), fever (jwara), enhancing reproductive constituents (shukrala), light to digest (laghu), reduces bad mouth odour (mukhagandhaghna)
  • Sweet and sour fruit (swaduamla) is beneficial for stimulating digestion (dipana), improving taste (ruchya), slightly elevates pitta dosha
  • Sour fruit aggravates pitta dosha and alleviates vata and kapha dosha

Identification characters

It is large deciduous shrub/small tree. Having shiner, oblanceolate glabrous leaves. Red coloured flowers with 5-7 petals and globose fruit.
